Immediately recognisable, the Sandman himself makes an appearance in Spider-Man 2 as the first main boss of the game. As unsuspecting as Greenwich may sound like, it is home to the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum. With the passing of Aunt May, Peter also launched the Emily-May Foundation headquarters in Greenwich to honor her memory. Harry reunited with Peter and Mary Jane early in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, apparently cured of his terminal condition and ready to use his family’s resources to change the world. In reality, Harry had secretly bonded with the Venom symbiote, which hid within Harry’s body, with its origin revealed to be from a meteorite recovered by Oscorp years prior.

As Peter and Miles attempt to stop Venom, Peter is debilitated by a trace amount of the symbiote still within him. After kuwin com settles his differences with Li, the latter uses his powers to convert Peter’s symbiote traces into the Anti-Venom symbiote, which can destroy other symbiotes. Concurrently, Venom recovers the meteorite that originally brought him to Earth and empowers himself with it, accelerating his infestation on New York. Peter and Miles distract Venom while Mary Jane steals the meteorite and destroys it with the EMF’s particle accelerator, destroying Venom’s symbiote horde. At Harry’s insistence, Peter destroys the symbiote and frees Harry from its control, but renders Harry comatose.

These characters do add a bit more flavour to the world and its largely homogenous population of NPCs you’re clearly not intended to look at too closely. These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. Speaking of boss battles, that’s one area that takes a noticeable step up from our initial tangos with Kingpin, Vulture, and the rest. One of my criticisms of the first in Insomniac’s series was how uninspired many of the showdowns felt, with their quicktime-heavy fights making a light impact. Improvements were made in Miles Morales, but here in the full-fledged sequel, boss battles really come to life. You’re made to wait a little too long for them sometimes, but when they do arrive they never fail to excite.

Hopes were high when the teasers at the end of both Spider-Man and Miles Morales teased the arrival of Venom. And, thankfully, it’s the only part of the story they actually did well. Using it to tell a tragic tale of two friends, instead of the more standard Eddie Brock story. Insomniac easily could have simply reused the map from Spider-Man and Miles Morales. A mostly accurate recreation of New York City, with certain buildings missing and other ones added. It’s all part of delivering an epic Spider-Man adventure directly into your hands.

With thrilling action gameplay and a deep story, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 capitalizes on the heights of its predecessors and somehow makes New York big enough for the two web-slingers who inhabit it. What’s more, it transforms villains from dated tropes to complex characters, and humanizes the people we save, and the ones who save us, in unforgettable ways. It’s hands-down the best Spider-Man game I’ve ever played, and a strong contender for the best game of a stellar release year. But out of this expansive rogues gallery, Venom is the magnum opus that reprises every emotional note the rest of the game has played. Spider-Man 2 foreshadows the looming threat he poses over dozens of its 31 main story missions. Thankfully, you’ll have massively-enhanced gadgetry and powers by the time you finally face him.

After finishing the fantastic story I then went back to mop up all of the optional tasks that I had left to do. This took me another nine hours, meaning I reached 100% completion and that precious platinum trophy after 27 hours in total. Upshot deploys a drone that shoots webbing at nearby enemies then tosses them into the air. This can be used either offensively or defensively, allowing players to head straight into aerial combos or delay enemy attacks.
